Boon or Boondoggle

With the advent of the Internet i.e., eBay; Fruit Jar collecting has become even more cut throat then ever before. It's not just other eagle eyes prying & lurking; it's a whole new generation of collectors as well as plain ordinary folks now running amuck paying huge sums for jars that, excuse me for being so blunt, just aren't worth the final price tag in my humble opinion.

Lack of knowledge, patience, seemingly bottomless wallets and a mentality that "I have to have them all right now or else" has been both a boon as well as a boondoggle to the hobby overall.

I have learned through trial & error, that no matter what I might think or feel, another example of a jar I missed & want will turn up sooner or later. Amazingly at usually a better bargain then when I
saw it the 1st time.

Plus, there is Nothing more frustrating then overpaying for something only to have another one @ 1/10 the value/price you paid show up. It can lead to a "I have to have that one too mentality or I'm going to bid on it just to make sure the price stays level with mine." It's basically an exercise in futility and just can't be done. It will lead to severe frustration, burnout and maybe even anger.

I would imagine like water, this whole auction thing with it's associated high price stuff will eventually find it's own & level out.

For the time being, I'll leave the high end bidding to others.

Regards,

Bruce Wayne
